Mapping Simultaneity: A Parallel Agencies Framework for Sociopolitical Analysis in Bangladesh
Öz
Current approaches to Bangladesh's sociopolitical analysis often work through isolating incidents. It prioritizes single-agency causality. They obscure complex interactions among non-state, state, societal, and international actors. This paper introduces the parallel agencies framework. It systematically maps simultaneous agency interactions across governance contexts. It is based on theoretical foundations from the agent–structure debate, network theory, and systems theory. The framework integrates event-structure mapping with social network analysis, and identifies tangent overlaps—zones where different agencies converge, diverge, or complement each other. The study demonstrates how multi-actor constellations generate emergent outcomes and challenge linear causality by analyzing eighteen empirically rich case studies spanning security, political, social, religious, and cultural domains. The framework enhances analytical precision and policy relevance. It identifies feedback loops, coordination gaps, and leverage points for intervention. It offers a scalable, context-sensitive lens for understanding Bangladesh's dense and contested sociopolitical fabric, with broader applicability to hybrid governance settings across South Asia.
