THE DETERMINATION OF THE LONG RUN RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN FOREIGN TOURISTS AND DOMESTIC TOURISTS AND PER CAPITA INCOME FROM 1980 TO 2011: THE TURKISH CASE

In the last thirty years, the tourism industry, largely due to increasing and diversifying its activities has become a sector that provides foreign currency inflow. Investment in infrastructure, a priori, and feedback links with other sectors, due to variety of services and employment-enhancing feature, tourism sector has an important share in GDP and balance of payments. Due to the fact that Turkey has rich tourism potential revenues from tourism sector, a growing trend in recent years, and the share of tourism sector in the national income and its contribution to reduce the current account deficit has been increasing. In this study, the relationships between the number of foreign tourists and of domestic tourists and per capita income have been analyzed considering the period of 1980 and 2011. The long-run relationship among foreign tourists, real exchange rate, and domestic tourist who go to foreign countries is examined in this study. The long-run relationship has been found between those variables mentioned above using cointegration analysis. As a result, the association among the number of tourists and the real exchange rate, and per capita income were found to be negative. However, a positive relationship has been found between per capita income and tourist spending

GELEN YABANCI TURİST VE YURTDIŞINA ÇIKAN YERLİ TURİSTLER İLE KİŞİ BAŞINA GELİR ARASINDAKİ UZUN DÖNEM İLİŞKİŞİNİN BELİRLENMESİ 1980-2011 DÖNEMİ: TÜRKİYE ÖRNEĞİ
Öz
Turizm endüstrisi, son otuz yıl içinde artan ve çeşitlenen faaliyetlerine bağlı olarak büyük oranda döviz girdisi sağlayan bir sektör haline gelmiştir. Altyapı yatırımları, diğer sektörler ile önsel ve gerisel bağlantıları, hizmet çeşitliliği ve istihdam arttırıcı özellikleri dolayısıyla turizm GSMH içinde ve ödemeler bilançosunun iyileştirilmesinde önemli bir paya sahiptir. Zengin turizm potansiyeline sahip Türkiye’nin turizmden elde ettiği gelirlerin son yıllarda artan bir seyir izlemesi milli gelir içindeki yeri ve cari açığın azaltılmasındaki katkısı giderek artmaktadır. Bu çalışmada 1980-2011 yılları arasındaki dönemde Türkiye gelen yabancılar ve yurtdışına çıkan yerli turistler ile kişi başına gelir arasındaki ilişki incelenmektedir. Türkiye’ ye gelen turist sayısı ile kişi başına gelir, reel kur ve yurt dışına giden yerli turistler ile ilgili bir uzun dönem ilişkisi ele alınmıştır. Yapılan analiz sonucunda bu değişkenler arasında uzun dönem ilişkisinin olduğu koentegrasyon analiziyle tespit edilmiş, gelen turist sayısı, reel kur ve kişi başına gelir arasında negatif ilişkinin olduğu görülmüştür. Ancak kişi başına gelir ile turistik harcama arasında doğru yönlü bir ilişkinin olduğu gözlemlenmektedir
