Roma Santa Maria Maggiore Bazilikası Zafer Takı Mozaikleri

Öz

Erken dönem Hıristiyan sanatı için öncü bir rolü olan Santa Maria Maggiore Bazilikası Roma’da Meryem'e adanan ilk bazilikadır. Orijinal apsis kemeri olan kısım 13. yüzyılda kilisenin genişletilmesi ve orijinal apsisin yıkılması sonrasında mozaikleriyle beraber anıtsal bir kemer olarak korunmuştur ve bu nedenle apsis kemeri olarak değil zafer takı olarak adlandırılmaktadır. Bu makalede zafer takının dokuz adet sahneden oluşan mozaikleri betimlenmektedir. Yeni Ahit’ten İsa’nın çocukluğunu gösteren bu mozaikler, literatürde MS 5. yüzyıl Roma kilisesi ve Roma kenti tarihi ışığında yorumlanmış ve tartışılmıştır. Bu makale, Türkçe kaynaklarda üzerine çok bilgi edinilemeyen bazilikaya dikkat çekme ve zafer takı mozaiklerini tanıtma amacını taşımaktadır.

Triumphal Arch Mosaics of the Santa Maria Maggiore Basilica in Rome

Öz

The Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore occupies a significant place in early Christian art and it was the first basilica in Rome dedicated to Mary. When the church was restored and enlarged in the thirteenth century and the original apse was thus removed, the original apsidal arch became the triumphal arch. The mosaics of the triumphal arch, which consist of nine scenes, are described in this article. They depict the childhood of Jesus as narrated in the New Testament. Here, they are interpreted and discussed in the light of the fifth-century Church of Rome and history of Rome. This article aims to draw attention to the basilica, about which little information is available in Turkish sources, and to introduce the triumphal arch mosaics.
