Morphological and Anatomical Characteristics of Endemic $Paracaryum$ $racemosum$ (Schreber) Britten var. racemosum Boiss. (Boraginaceae)

Öz

In this study, the morphological and anatomical characteristics of the $Paracaryum$ $racemosum$ (Schreber) Britten var. racemosum Boiss. (Boraginaceae) which is distributed in Kırşehir, were investigated. Transverse and superficial sections were taken from the roots, stems and leaves of the plants. The species has woody, brown roots. The inflorescence is semi-pseudo-umbrella-shaped with 5-10 flowers. The stem of the species branches from the middle. On the stem, which has flat tomentose hairs, the density of hairs increases towards the apex. Basal leaves are petiolate and have an oblong-lanceolate shape whereas the upper leaves are linear. The calyx is 5-lobed. The corolla is densely vascularized and tube-shaped, and narrows toward the base. Secondary growth is observed in the root cross-section. Spaces are present between the cortex parenchyma cells located just beneath the periderm. The central part of the root consists of tracheary elements. Stem cross-sections shows a distinct, wavy-curved outline, and an almost oval shape. Just beneath the epidermis, a 4-5 layered collenchyma tissue is present. In the stem, vascular bundles form a continuous ring. Leaf cross-sections exhibit a broadly V-shaped appearance. The epidermis is single-layered on both the upper and lower surfaces of the leaf. The leaf mesophyll is equifacial. The palisade parenchyma consists of long, cylindrical cells beneath the epidermis on both surfaces. The stomata are usually surrounded by four adjacent epidermal cells, indicating an anomocytic type.
