Evaluation of Choroidal Thickness in Pregnant Women with Intrauterine Growth Retardation by Optical Coherence Tomography

Abstract

Objective: We aimed to compare the choroidal thickness in pregnant women with intrauterine growth retardation, healthy pregnant women and healthy non-pregnant women using optical coherence tomography. Materials and methods: Pregnant women who admitted to the pregnancy outpatient clinic and non-pregnant healthy women were included in the study at the university hospital between December 2016 and January 2018. Thirty-one healthy pregnant women, 30 pregnant women with intrauterine growth retardation, and 30 healthy women between the ages of 18-45 participated in the study. The choroidal thickness of the patients was measured by Enhanced Depth Imaging Optical Coherence Tomography (EDI-OCT) method. Results: The mean gestational week was 33.6 ± 3.2 weeks in healthy pregnant women, 34.2 ± 2.8 weeks in pregnant women with intrauterine growth retardation. There was no significant difference between weeks of gestation (p = 0.420). Choroidal thickness were 357.27 ± 59.25 μm, 352.27 ± 67.01 μm, and 337.87 ± 88.44 μm in healthy pregnant women, pregnant women with intrauterine growth retardation, and in healthy women, respectively. There was no significant difference between the groups in terms of choroidal thickness (p = 0.559). In addition, there was no difference between healthy pregnant women and pregnant women with intrauterine growth retardation in terms of choroidal thickness (p = 0.367). Conclusion: No significant difference was found in terms of choroidal thickness between pregnant women with intrauterine growth retardation, healthy pregnant women and healthy women.

İntrauterin Gelişme Geriliği Olan Gebelerin Koroid Kalınlığının Optik Koherens Tomografi ile Değerlendirilmesi

Abstract

Amaç: İntrauterin gelişme geriliği olan gebelerde, sağlıklı gebelerde ve sağlıklı gebe olmayan kadınlarda optik koherens tomografi cihazı kullanılarak gözdeki koroid kalınlık ölçümünün karşılaştırması amaçlandı. Gereç ve Yöntemler: Bu karşılaştırmalı çalışmaya Aralık 2016 ve Ocak 2018 tarihleri arasında üniversite hastanesinde gebe polikliniğine başvuran gebeler ve gebe olmayan sağlıklı kadınlar dahil edilmiştir. Çalışmaya 18-45 yaş aralığında, 31 üçüncü trimester sağlıklı gebe, 30 intrauterin gelişme geriliği olan gebe ve 30 sağlıklı gönüllü kadın katılmıştır. Çalışmaya katılan kişilerin koroid kalınlığı Enhanced Depth Imaging Optik Koherens Tomografi (EDI-OKT) yöntemiyle ölçülmüştür. Bulgular: Çalışmaya alınan sağlıklı gebeler 33,6±3,2 hafta, intrauterin gelişme geriliği olan gebeler ise 34,2±2,8 hafta idi ve gebelik haftaları arasında anlamlı fark yoktu (p=0,420). Sağlıklı gebelerin koroid kalınlık ölçümü 357,27±59,25 μm, intrauterin gelişme geriliği olan gebelerin koroid kalınlık ölçümü 352,27±67,01 μm, sağlıklı kadınların ise 337,87±88,44 μm idi. Gruplar arasında koroid kalınlık ölçümü açısından anlamlı fark saptanmamıştır (p=0,559). Ayrıca sağlıklı gebeler ve intrauterin gelişme geriliği olan gebelerin arasında koroid kalınlık açısından fark bulunamamıştır (p=0,367). Sonuç: İntrauterin gelişme geriliği olan gebelerin, sağlıklı gebelerin ve sağlıklı kadınların koroid kalınlık karşılaştırılmasında anlamlı bir farklılık bulunamamıştır.
