Assessment of Pain Severity by the Full Cup Test in Patients with Chronic Neck Pain

Aim: The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between Full Cup Test (FCT) scores and pain severity, disability, and quality of life in patients with chronic neck pain, and to evaluate the potential of FCT as a correlate of these parameters. Materials and Methods: This descriptive, cross-sectional study included participants experiencing chronic neck pain lasting at least three months. Demographic information and general health status were documented. Neck-related functional impairments were assessed using the Neck Disability Index (NDI), and quality of life was measured through the Short Form-36 (SF-36) questionnaire. Pain intensity was evaluated using both the VAS (Visual analog scale) and FCT. Results: The study population included 90 individuals diagnosed with chronic neck pain, of whom 79 (87.8%) were female, and 11 (12.2%) were male. The median age was 58.0 (51.8-64.0). Participants had mean scores of 6.5 ± 1.6 on the VAS, 65.29 ± 15.30 on the FCT, and 19.8 ± 8.8 on the NDI. NDI was moderately correlated with VAS (Rho = 0.499, p < 0.001) and FCT (Rho = 0.505, p < 0.001). Weak to moderate negative correlations were identified between FCT and the SF-36 subscales. Conclusion: The results suggest that FCT could be a valuable adjunctive method for evaluating pain in patients with chronic neck pain. Its ease of application, patient comprehensibility, and consistency with the VAS support its clinical utility. Future studies should investigate the FCT's sensitivity to long-term changes and its effectiveness across different patient populations.

Kronik Boyun Ağrılı Hastalarda Ağrı Şiddetinin Dolu Bardak Testi ile Değerlendirilmesi

Öz

Amaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı, kronik boyun ağrısı olan hastalarda Dolu Bardak Testi (DBT) skorlarının ağrı şiddeti, sakatlık düzeyi ve yaşam kalitesi ile olan ilişkisini inceleyerek, DBT’nin bu parametrelerle korelasyon potansiyelini değerlendirmektir. Yöntemler: Tanımlayıcı, kesitsel nitelikteki bu çalışmaya en az üç aydır kronik boyun ağrısı yaşayan bireyler dahil edilmiştir. Katılımcıların demografik bilgileri ve genel sağlık durumları kaydedilmiştir. Boyun ilişkili fonksiyonel bozukluklar Boyun Özürlülük İndeksi (BÖİ) kullanılarak değerlendirilmiş, yaşam kalitesi ise Kısa Form-36 (KF-36) anketi ile ölçülmüştür. Ağrı şiddeti hem görsel analog skala (GAS) hem de DBT ile değerlendirilmiştir. Bulgular: Çalışma popülasyonu, kronik boyun ağrısı tanısı konmuş 90 kişiden oluşuyordu; bunların 79'u (%87,8) kadın, 11'i (%12,2) erkekti. Ortalama yaş 58,0 (51,8-64,0) idi. Katılımcıların GAS puan ortalaması 6,5 ± 1,6, DBT puan ortalaması 65,29 ± 15,30 ve BÖİ puan ortalaması 19,8 ± 8,8 idi. BÖİ, GAS (Rho = 0.499, p < 0,001) ve DBT (Rho = 0.505, p < 0,001) ile orta derecede korelasyon gösterdi. DBT ile KF-36 alt ölçekleri arasında zayıf ila orta derecede negatif korelasyonlar tespit edildi. Sonuç: Bu çalışmanın bulguları, DBT'nin kronik boyun ağrısı olan hastalarda ağrıyı değerlendirmek için değerli bir yardımcı yöntem olabileceğini göstermektedir. Uygulama kolaylığı, hasta tarafından anlaşılabilirliği ve GAS ile tutarlılığı klinik yararını desteklemektedir. Gelecekteki çalışmalar DBT'nin uzun vadeli değişikliklere duyarlılığını ve farklı hasta popülasyonlarında etkinliğini araştırmalıdır.
