Öz

İngilizce Özet THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN CARBON DIOXIDE EMISSIONS AND GROWTH IN SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT: BRICS COUNTRIES AND TURKEY Sustainable development aims a development respecting the ecological balance, instead of short-term economic benefits it requires a long-term inter-generational social and ecological benefits. The international enforcement, such as the Kyoto protocol, try to encourage the countries to increase the production of energy from renewable sources and reducing carbon dioxide emissions within the sustainable development. In this study, a long-term relationship between carbon dioxide emissions, GDP and the production of renewable energy for the BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China, S. Africa) and Turkey has been tested with the Johansen co- integration analysis between the years of 1980-2010. A long-term relationship between these variables was found for Brazil, Russia, India and Turkey. The series of China and S. Africa are not stationary in same order so that the test cannot be applied

Öz

Sürdürülebilir kalkınma, ekolojik dengeyi gözeten bir kalkınma sürecini amaçlamakta; kısa dönemli ekonomik faydaların yerini uzun dönemli nesiller arası toplumsal ve ekolojik yararların almasını öngörmektedir. Özellikle Kyoto protokolü gibi uluslararası yaptırımlar ülkelerin sürdürülebilir kalkınma kapsamında, yenilenebilir kaynaklardan enerji üretiminin artmasını ve karbondioksit emisyonlarının giderek azaltılmasını öngörmektedir. Bu çalışmada, BRICS ülkeleri (Brezilya, Rusya, Hindistan, Çin, G.Afrika) ve Türkiye’nin 1980-2010 yılları arasında karbondioksit emisyonları ile GSYİH ve yenilenebilir enerji üretimi arasındaki uzun dönemli ilişki Johansen eşbütünleşme analizi ile test edilmiş, Brezilya, Rusya, Hindistan ve Türkiye için değişkenler arasında uzun dönemli ilişkiye rastlanmıştır. Çin ve G.Afrika’da seriler aynı dereceden durağan olmadığından ilişki tespit edilememiştir
