STRUCTURAL SYMBOLIC INTERACTIONISM AND IDENTITY THEORY

Öz

Symbolic interactionism is the theoretical approach that advocates individuals are created through face to face meaningful interactions, and that human behavior can be explained by focusing on these interactions. This study examines structural symbolic interaction and identity theory, a perspective of symbolic interactionism. Structural symbolic interaction has emerged mainly through the development of this framework by reformulating the theory, which was created by Mead, Cooley, and Blumer, which is defined as traditional symbolic interactionism. This perspective, presented by Sheldon Stryker, aimed to empirically test symbolic interactionist expressions. The theory of identity, developed by Stryker within the structural symbolic interactionist theory, brought a different perspective to the subject in terms of defending that the concepts of status and role associated with the social structure may be related to the individual's world of meaning. Considering the focus on the social structure in the study of the concepts of role and status, this theoretical outlook, which emphasizes the activity of the individual, is considered to contribute to the studies.

YAPISAL SEMBOLİK ETKİLEŞİMCİLİK VE KİMLİK TEORİSİ

Öz

Sembolik etkileşimcilik bireylerin yüz yüze tekrar eden anlamlı etkileşimler yoluyla toplumun yaratıldığını ve insan davranışının bu etkileşimlere odaklanarak açıklanabileceğini savunan kuramsal yaklaşımdır. Bu çalışma sembolik etkileşimciliğin bir perspektifi olan yapısal sembolik etkileşimlik ve kimlik teorisini incelemektedir. Yapısal sembolik etkileşim temelde Mead, Cooley ve Blumer tarafından oluşturulan ve geleneksel sembolik etkileşimcilik olarak tanımlanan teorinin yeniden formüle edilerek bu çerçevenin geliştirilmesiyle ortaya çıkmıştır. Sheldon Stryker tarafından sunulan bu perspektif sembolik etkileşimci ifadelerin ampirik olarak test edilmesini amaçlamıştır. Stryker tarafından yapısal sembolik etkileşimci teori içerisinde geliştirilen kimlik teorisi sosyal yapı ile ilişkilendirilen statü ve rol kavramlarının bireyin anlam dünyası ile de ilişkili olabileceğini savunması bakımından konuya farklı bir perspektif getirmiş ve bireye benliğini kimlikleri çerçevesinde inşa etmesinde aktif bir rol biçmiştir. Rol ve statü kavramlarının çalışılmasında sosyal yapıya odaklanıldığı düşünüldüğünde bireyin aktifliğini öne çıkaran bu teorik bakışın çalışmalara katkı sağlayacağı değerlendirilmektedir.
