Employment of Individuals with Disabilities and Employment Policies in Türkiye
Öz
Although the nature and extent of employment-related challenges for disabled individuals may vary based on a country's level of development, employment remains one of the most significant barriers to social inclusion. The aim of this study was to examine the current employment status and challenges faced by individuals with disabilities in Türkiye, with a specific focus on recruitment processes, employment policies, and the effectiveness of existing legal frameworks. Through a comprehensive literature review and interpreting the most recent statistical findings, gaps in the implementation of employment policies were identified and the persistent barriers that hinder labour market participation were explored. The findings were identified and explored. They suggest that while Türkiye has introduced legislative measures to enhance employment opportunities for disabled individuals, these regulations remain insufficient in addressing systemic inequalities and structural barriers. The study concludes with recommendations for more inclusive employment policies and the need for a shift toward a social model of disability to ensure equitable labour market participation.
