2025 Roland Garros Men's Tennis Tournament: Network Analysis and Performance Momentum

This study examines the men's matches at the 2025 Roland Garros Tennis Tournament using network analysis and score-based momentum assessments. The tournament's 128 players were visualized using match-based network maps and layered tournament networks, with detailed analysis of the round of 16, quarterfinals, semifinals, and final stages. Using methods such as network centrality, selective concentration, and visualization of progression paths, athletes' positions within the tournament, performance transitions, and progression dynamics after critical thresholds were revealed. The findings reveal Carlos Alcaraz's come-from-behind victory over Jannik Sinner in the final, a performance transformation supported by momentum graphs. In particular, Alcaraz's momentum from the third set onward in the five-set final, combined with his tie-break victories in the fourth and fifth sets, demonstrates the importance of psychological resilience and the ability to dominate at critical points. The analyses contributed not only to the statistical evaluation of scores but also to the understanding of the psychological and strategic dimensions of the match. In conclusion, the study highlights that network-based modeling in sports science is a powerful tool for understanding not only structural relationships but also the dynamic and psychological dimensions of matches. This approach is believed to be applicable in the future for examining different tournaments, comparing player performance, and analyzing strategic development processes.

2025 Roland Garros Erkekler Tenis Turnuvası: Ağ Analizi ve Performans Momentumları

Öz

Bu çalışma, 2025 Roland Garros Tenis Turnuvası’nda erkekler kategorisinde gerçekleşen karşılaşmaları ağ analizi ve skor temelli momentum değerlendirmeleri üzerinden incelemektedir. Turnuvanın 128 oyunculuk yapısı, eşleşme-temelli ağ haritaları ve katmanlı turnuva ağları aracılığıyla görselleştirilmiş; özellikle son 16, çeyrek final, yarı final ve final aşamaları detaylı biçimde analiz edilmiştir. Bu kapsamda, ağ merkeziliği, seçici yoğunlaştırma ve ilerleme yollarının görselleştirilmesi gibi yöntemler kullanılarak sporcuların turnuva içerisindeki konumları, performans geçişleri ve kritik eşiklerden sonraki ilerleme dinamikleri ortaya konmuştur. Bulgular, Carlos Alcaraz’ın finalde Jannik Sinner karşısında geriden gelerek elde ettiği şampiyonluğu, momentum grafikleriyle desteklenen bir performans dönüşümü şeklinde ortaya koymaktadır. Özellikle beş setlik finalde Alcaraz’ın üçüncü setten itibaren yakaladığı ivme, dördüncü ve beşinci setlerdeki tie-break zaferleriyle birleşerek psikolojik dayanıklılığın ve kritik puanlarda üstünlük sağlamanın önemini göstermektedir. Analizler, yalnızca skorların istatistiksel değerlendirilmesini değil, aynı zamanda maçın psikolojik ve stratejik boyutlarının da anlaşılmasına katkıda bulunmuştur. Sonuç olarak çalışma, spor bilimlerinde ağ temelli modellemelerin yalnızca yapısal ilişkileri değil, aynı zamanda maçların dinamik ve psikolojik boyutlarını anlamada da güçlü bir araç olduğunu vurgulamaktadır. Bu yaklaşımın, gelecekte farklı turnuvaların incelenmesi, oyuncu performanslarının karşılaştırılması ve stratejik gelişim süreçlerinin analiz edilmesi için uygulanabilir olduğu düşünülmektedir.
