The “nighttime economy” broadly refers to the economic activities and services of businesses or individuals operating in the evening and at night. As urban areas and tourist destinations have recognized the potential of nighttime activities to generate revenue, encourage social interaction, and offer unique experiences for locals and tourists, this concept has recently gained attention in the tourism sector as “nighttime tourism.” Night tourism can increase employment and provide significant income for local businesses and individuals. This tourism approach also highlights unique cultural riches, creates an atmosphere that attracts locals and tourists, increases spending, and supports job creation in accommodation, entertainment, and related sectors. However, night tourism also brings challenges such as managing noise, ensuring public safety, and balancing residential needs with commercial activities. For these reasons, cities must balance the appeal of a vibrant nightlife with sustainability and community interests regarding night tourism activities. In this study, night tourism practices in different destinations worldwide were researched, and a SWOT analysis of night tourism was conducted based on the data obtained. As a result of this research, the advantages of night tourism were determined to be reducing pressure on daytime attractions, offering tourists different experiences, increasing the visibility and revitalization of urban areas, and providing climatic benefits. The disadvantages of night tourism were identified as increased safety and security concerns, light pollution creating environmental impacts, high financing and operating costs, increased noise and disturbance for residents, and appealing to a limited tourist profile. Tourism stakeholders should carefully evaluate these factors to balance the benefits and disadvantages effectively. Destinations can leverage the potential of night tourism while preserving the quality of life for residents by implementing strategies to mitigate risks, such as enhancing security measures and promoting sustainable practices.
