BIBLIOMETRIC ANALYSIS OF SCIENTIFIC PUBLICATIONS ON ENDOMETRIOSIS, CHRONIC PELVIC PAIN, PAIN MANAGEMENT, AND QUALITY OF LIFE (2014–2024)

Öz

Purpose: Endometriosis is a chronic inflammatory disease affecting reproductive-age women, often associated with pelvic pain, reduced quality of life, and complex treatment needs. Despite growing research interest, the thematic, structural, and collaborative aspects of this field remain poorly understood. Therefore, this study evaluates the scientific literature on endometriosis, chronic pelvic pain, pain management, and quality of life through bibliometric analysis, with the aim of identifying research trends, collaboration patterns, and thematic concentrations within the field. Methods: A total of 297 scientific publications (197 original research articles and 100 review articles) published between January 1, 2014, and December 31, 2024, were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection database. The included publications were analyzed using the VOSviewer 1.6.20 software. Visualizations were generated for keyword co-occurrence, citation analysis, author collaboration, document clustering, and international cooperation between countries. Results: The most frequently studied themes were “endometriosis,” “pelvic pain,” and “quality of life.” Topics such as pain, depression, and psychosocial impacts were identified as central in the literature. The most highly cited publications were by Dunselman et al. (2014) and Chapron et al. (2019), while the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada emerged as the leading countries in scientific output. Notably, contributions from Türkiye have shown a marked increase in recent years. Conclusion: This study reveals that the endometriosis literature has evolved toward a holistic, biopsychosocial approach, with increasing interdisciplinary collaboration and growing attention to psychosocial interventions. The findings offer valuable insights for setting research priorities and guiding health policy development.

ENDOMETRİYOZİS, KRONİK PELVİK AĞRI, AĞRI YÖNETİMİ VE YAŞAM KALİTESİ ÜZERİNE YAYINLANAN BİLİMSEL ÇALIŞMALARIN BİBLİYOMETRİK ANALİZİ (2014–2024)

Öz

Amaç: Endometriozis, üreme çağındaki kadınları etkileyen kronik inflamatuar bir hastalıktır ve sıklıkla pelvik ağrı, yaşam kalitesinde azalma ve karmaşık tedavi gereksinimleri ile ilişkilidir. Artan araştırma ilgisine rağmen, bu alandaki tematik, yapısal ve iş birliğine dayalı dinamikler yeterince anlaşılamamıştır. Bu nedenle bu çalışma, endometriozis, kronik pelvik ağrı, ağrı yönetimi ve yaşam kalitesi konularına odaklanan bilimsel literatürü bibliyometrik analiz yoluyla değerlendirerek alandaki araştırma eğilimlerini, iş birliği örüntülerini ve tematik yoğunlaşmaları belirlemeyi amaçlamaktadır. Yöntem: Web of Science Core Collection veritabanından 1 Ocak 2014 ile 31 Aralık 2024 tarihleri arasında yayımlanan toplam 297 bilimsel yayın (197 özgün araştırma makalesi ve 100 derleme makalesi) taranmıştır. Dâhil edilen yayınlar VOSviewer 1.6.20 yazılımı kullanılarak analiz edilmiştir. Anahtar kelime eş-ortaya çıkma analizi, atıf analizi, yazar iş birliği, doküman kümelenmesi ve ülkeler arası uluslararası iş birliği için görselleştirmeler oluşturulmuştur. Bulgular: Literatürde en sık çalışılan temalar “endometriozis,” “pelvik ağrı” ve “yaşam kalitesi” olmuştur. Ağrı, depresyon ve psiko-sosyal etkiler gibi konuların merkezî araştırma alanları olduğu belirlenmiştir. En yüksek atıf alan çalışmalar Dunselman ve ark. (2014) ile Chapron ve ark. (2019) tarafından yayımlanan makalelerdir. Bilimsel üretimde Amerika Birleşik Devletleri, Birleşik Krallık ve Kanada ilk sırada yer alırken, Türkiye’den yapılan katkıların son yıllarda belirgin şekilde arttığı görülmüştür. Sonuç: Bu çalışma, endometriozis literatürünün giderek bütüncül ve biyopsikososyal bir yaklaşıma evrildiğini; disiplinler arası iş birliğinin arttığını ve psiko-sosyal müdahalelere yönelik ilginin güçlendiğini ortaya koymaktadır. Bulgular, araştırma önceliklerinin belirlenmesi ve sağlık politikalarının şekillendirilmesi açısından değerli bir yol haritası sunmaktadır.
