Introduction and Purpose of Study: The aim of the study is to reveal the factors that cause graffiti to transform today and to reveal the effects of its being seen in exhibition spaces on graffiti culture.
Conceptual/Theoretical Framework: Graffiti has emerged in the world to say that it is a rebellion and I exist. Graffiti, which was seen as a vandal act in its first years, has started to be seen as an art with its popularity today. After graffiti was accepted as art, graffiti artists started to work in exhibition places such as museums and galleries. Considering the original purpose of graffiti, this is a matter of debate. If exhibiting graffiti in galleries or museums is contrary to graffiti, then it can be said that graffiti artists have directed graffiti culture to change for the sake of being popular. The importance of the work makes it visible how the graffiti culture is in a transformation.
Method: In the study, descriptive analysis method, one of the qualitative research methods, was used. The data obtained in this context were interpreted according to the subject. The change of graffiti art has been examined and the elements formed as a result of this change have been mentioned. In the first and second parts of the study, graffiti and street art were mentioned, and in the third part, the popularization of graffiti and street art and its place in galleries and museums were examined.
Results: Graffiti is basically a vandal act. The reason for this is that it is not made for art, but rather as a form of rebellion and it is done without permission, it changes the appearance of the place. For this reason, there is a debate whether it was art or not in the years when it was first made. Like everything else in the developing world, graffiti has also changed. Graffiti, which is now seen as art, is accepted by people today. As a result, graffiti writers turned to exhibition spaces such as galleries and museums.
Conclusion: Considering the changes that the graffiti culture has undergone, it is normal to see graffiti writers in galleries and museums. However, it is possible to divide the works of graffiti writers in places such as galleries and museums into a different category instead of graffiti. The reason for this is due to the fact that it is a more correct approach to have graffiti on the streets.
