Afrotropikal orjinli Mahmuzlu Kızkuşu (Vanellus spinosus) Türkiye’de yaz göçmeni olarak görülen türlerden biridir. Tatlı su kenarı veya yapay kanalların yakınında bulunan; kumul, mera, çorak alan ve tarlalara yuva yapmaktadır. Yavrular precocial tiptedir ve yumurtadan çıkar çıkmaz kendi kendilerine beslenirler. Yapılan çalışmalar yumurta boyutlarının, yumurtadan çıkan yavrular ve hayatta kalma oranları üzerinde etkili olduğunu göstermektedir Araştırma Antalya ilinin 45 km doğusunda (36°50’N, 31°11’E, yaklaşık deniz seviyesinde) yer alan, Boğazkent’te gerçekleştirilmiştir. Yuva üzerine kurulan metal kapanlarla erginler yakalanmış ve yumurtalara ait en-boy ölçümleri alınmış, ağırlıkları tartılmıştır. Yumurtadan çıkan yavrular da tartılarak verilerin istatistik analizleri yapılarak karşılaştırılmıştır. Yapılan analizlere göre yumurta ağırlığı, hacmi ve yavru ağırlığı arasında pozitif yönde önemli bir korelasyon (p≤0.01), dişi ağırlıkları ile yumurta ağırlığı ve hacmi arasında ise orta dereceli negatif bir korelasyon bulunmaktadır (p≤0.05).
