ART, PERSONALITY, AND SOCIETY: AN ANALYSIS OF PAINTING PRACTICES FROM A SOCIAL PSYCHOLOGY PERSPECTIVE

Öz

Art constitutes a powerful means of communication through which individuals express their inner worlds as well as the social contexts in which they are embedded. Painting, in particular, enables individuals to convey personality traits, emotional states, and social identities in a symbolic and visual form. Within psychological research, paintings and drawing-based practices have long been examined as tools for understanding individual psychodynamics, especially through projective techniques and art-based approaches. However, studies that address painting from a social psychological perspective—focusing on its relationship with social values, group affiliations, and cultural representations—remain relatively limited. This study aims to discuss the role of painting in reflecting personality and social identity within a social psychological framework. Drawing on theories of social identity, symbolic interactionism, and cultural representation, the research seeks to explore the interaction between individual expression and social structure. Methodologically, the study is based on a comprehensive literature review and theoretical synthesis. In this context, projective techniques, art therapy approaches, and social psychological theories are integrated within an interdisciplinary perspective. The study argues that painting reflects not only individual psychological processes but also social norms, cultural symbols, and collective identities. By conceptualizing painting as a medium situated at the intersection of individual and social dimensions, this research aims to make an original contribution to the social psychology literature and to provide a theoretical framework for understanding the role of art at both individual and societal levels.

Sanat, Kişilik ve Toplum: Resim Çalışmalarının Sosyal Psikoloji Perspektifiyle Analizi

Öz

Sanat, bireyin iç dünyasını ve içinde bulunduğu toplumsal bağlamı yansıtan güçlü bir iletişim aracıdır. Özellikle resim sanatı, bireylerin kişilik özelliklerini, duygusal durumlarını ve sosyal kimliklerini sembolik bir düzlemde ifade etmelerine olanak tanımaktadır. Psikoloji literatüründe resim çalışmaları uzun yıllardır bireyin psikodinamik yapısını anlamaya yönelik projektif teknikler ve sanat temelli yaklaşımlar çerçevesinde ele alınmıştır. Bununla birlikte, resim sanatının sosyal psikoloji perspektifiyle, toplumsal değerler, grup aidiyetleri ve kültürel temsiller bağlamında ele alındığı çalışmaların sınırlı olduğu görülmektedir. Bu çalışma, resim sanatının kişilik ve sosyal kimlik yansımaları üzerindeki rolünü sosyal psikoloji perspektifinden ele alarak kuramsal bir çerçevede tartışmayı amaçlamaktadır. Araştırma, bireysel ifade biçimleri ile toplumsal yapı arasındaki etkileşimi anlamak üzere sosyal kimlik kuramı, sembolik etkileşimcilik ve kültürel temsil yaklaşımlarından yararlanmaktadır. Yöntem olarak çalışma, literatür taraması ve kuramsal sentez temelinde yapılandırılmıştır. Bu bağlamda projektif teknikler, sanat terapisi yaklaşımları ve sosyal psikoloji kuramları disiplinler arası bir perspektifle bütünleştirilmektedir. Çalışma, resim sanatının yalnızca bireysel psikolojik süreçlerin değil, aynı zamanda toplumsal normların, kültürel sembollerin ve kolektif kimliklerin bir yansıması olduğunu ortaya koymayı hedeflemektedir. Bu yönüyle araştırma, resim sanatının bireysel psikolojik özellikler ile sosyal kimlik arasındaki ilişkiyi açıklayarak sosyal psikoloji literatürüne özgün bir katkı sunmayı amaçlamakta; sanatın bireysel ve toplumsal düzeydeki işlevlerini anlamaya yönelik kuramsal bir tartışma zemini oluşturmaktadır.
