Bioresonance, Body, Health and Self Conceptualization in Istanbul

In the 2000s, unconventional medical treatments, including bioresonance, displayed rapid growth in urban areas worldwide, including urban Istanbul. The number of bioresonance doctors and those who take the support of this treatment is increasing rapidly. Despite the expansion and prevalence of conventional medical health policies in Turkey, it is possible to observe many patients choosing bioresonance treatment over or together with conventional western medicine. The intention of this article is to find a partial answer to the following question: Despite a well-established modern conventional health & medical system in Turkey, including numerous advanced state and private hospitals, doctors, insurances, why does Bioresonance treatment, a method uncovered by insurance, gain popularity? To address this question, I based this research on a qualitative fieldworld with participant observations conducted in a bioresonance clinic, as well as in-depth interviews with one Bioresonance doctor, one holistic health carer, the distributor of the Bioresonance treatment device, and 14 patients who received Bioresonance treatment since their perceptions of health, illness and body constitute an important reason why bioresonance expanded. Having observed that approximately 80% of the bioresonance users are women, I argue that the health, illness, body and self perceptions of bioresonance patients, particularly women, utilizing bioresonance, constitute an important reason why bioresonance expands in Istanbul.

İstanbul'da Biyorezonans, Beden, Sağlık ve Benlik Kavramlaştırması, Beden, Sağlık ve Benlik Kavramlaştırması

Öz

Biorezonans da dahil pekçok anaakım olmayan tıbbi tedavi, 2000'li yıllarda, dünya genelinde, özellikle de kentsel alanlarda yaygınlaşmaktadır. İstanbul da bu kentlerden bir tanesidir. Istanbul’da biorezonans doktorlarının ve biorezonans desteği alan hastaların sayısının hızla arttığını gözlemlemek mümkündür. Türkiye'de anaakım tıp sağlık politikalarının yaygınlığına rağmen, birçok hastanın anaakım batı tıbbı yerine veya onunla birlikte biorezonans tedavisini tercih ettiği gözlemlenebilir. Bu çerçevede, benim bu makaledeki amacım, şu soruya kısmi bir cevap bulmaktır: Türkiye'de çok sayıda gelişmiş devlet ve özel hastane, doctor ve sigorta olmasına rağmen ve Sosyal Güvenlik Kurumu da dahil olmak üzere iyi kurulmuş modern bir anaakım sağlık sistemi bulunmasına rağmen, nasıl oluyor da hiçbir sigorta kapsamına dahil olmayan biorezonans tedavisi artarak talep görmekte? Ben bu makalemde bu soruyu kısmi bir cevap verebilmek adına, katılımcı gözlem ve derinlemesine mülakata dayalı nitel bir araştırma yöntemi kullandım. Bu nitel araştırmamda Biorezonans kliniğinde gerçekleştirdiğim katılımcı gözlemlerin yanısıra bir biorezonans doktoru, bir bütünsel sağlık uzmanı, bir biorezonans cihaz distribütörü ve 14 tane biorezonans hastası ile derinlemesine görüşmeler yaptım. Bu süreçte biorezonans desteği alan hastaların yaklaşık %80'inin kadın olduğunu öğrendim. Bu bağlamda ben bu makalemde biorezonansın İstanbul'da yaygınlaşmasının önemli bir nedenin, biorezonans kullanan hastaların, özellikle de kadın hastaların, sağlık, hastalık, beden ve benlik kavramlarını nasıl algıladıklarıyla ilgili olduğunu ortaya koyuyorum.
