Assessment of a Technology-Based Preoperative Education Program Applied Before Appendectomy – A Case Report

Appendicitis is one of the most common surgical problems encountered in adolescence period. Surgical procedures such as appendectomy are stressful processes for the child and adolescent age group. In this case report, a technology-based preoperative education program was prepared by keeping in mind the characteristics of the adolescence period, its close relationship with technology, interests and needs. The program consists of meeting the adolescent and their parents, nursing care for preoperative preparation, and watching a technology-based preoperative training video. The program was applied to a 14-year-old female adolescent who was hospitalized for appendectomy. The effectiveness of the technology-based preoperative education program was evaluated by using the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory for Children, monitoring of vital signs, pain evaluation and the verbal expressions of the adolescent. At the end of the program, it was determined that the state and trait anxiety scores of the adolescent decreased, her vital signs were observed to be stable, her pain score did not change in the preoperative period, and it decreased in the postoperative period, except for a 1-point increase in the 6th hour when she was mobilized. In addition, the adolescent expressed her opinion about the preoperative training video as "clear and understandable, questions I was curious about were answered, I felt that I was taken care of and I was happy".

Apendektomi Öncesi Uygulanan Teknoloji Tabanlı Preoperatif Eğitim Programının Değerlendirilmesi - Olgu Sunumu

Öz

Apandisit adölesan dönemde en sık karşılaşılan cerrahi sorunlardan biridir. Apendektomi gibi cerrahi işlemler çocuk ve adölesan yaş grubu için strese neden olabilecek bir süreçtir. Bu olgu sunumunda adölesan dönemin özellikleri, teknolojiyle olan yakın ilişkisi, ilgi ve ihtiyaçları göz önünde bulundurularak teknoloji tabanlı preoperatif eğitim programı hazırlanmıştır. Program adölesan ve ebeveynleri ile tanışma, preoperatif hazırlığa yönelik hemşirelik bakımı ve teknoloji tabanlı preoperatif eğitim videosunun izletilmesinden oluşmaktadır. Program apendektomi nedeniyle hastanede yatan 14 yaşında kız adölesana uygulanmıştır. Teknoloji tabanlı preoperatif eğitim programının etkinliği Çocuklar için Sürekli ve Durumluk Anksiyete Kaygı Ölçeği, vital bulgular izlemi, ağrı değerlendirme formu ve adölesanın sözel ifadeleri ile değerlendirilmiştir. Program sonunda adölesanın durumluk ve sürekli anksiyete puanlarının azaldığı, vital bulgularının stabil izlediği görülmüştür. Ağrı puanı ise preoperatif dönemde değişiklik göstermezken postoperatif dönemde mobilize olduğu dönem olan 6. saatte 1 puanlık artış görülmüş bunun dışında azalmıştır. Ayrıca adölesan preoperatif eğitim videosu hakkındaki görüşünü ‘açık ve anlaşılır, merak ettiğim sorular yanıtlandı, benimle ilgilenildiğini hissettim ve mutlu oldum’ şeklinde ifade etmiştir
