Enhanced Recovery After Surgery Protocols and Nursing Approaches During Coronavirus Pandemics

Öz

The coronavirus disease, which can be easily transmitted from person to person, emerged in 2019 and was declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization in March 2020. While mild symptoms are observed in some individuals with coronavirus disease, some individuals may experience mortality. In our country, elective surgeries were postponed and infection control measures were reported by the Ministry of Health. In case of emergency and oncological surgery, early discharge has gained importance in order to reduce the exposure of patients and healthcare personnel to the virus and to use the beds, ventilators and resources appropriately. This situation has brought the importance of Enhanced Recovery After Surgery protocols, which take early discharge to its target and consist of evidence-based practices. Nurses are also healthcare professionals who play a key role in the implementation of these protocols. The purpose of this review is to discuss the Enhanced Recovery After Surgery protocols and the role of the nurse in surgical applications during the coronavirus pandemic process.

Koronavirüs Pandemi Sürecinde Cerrahi Sonrası Hızlandırılmış İyileşme Protokolleri ve Hemşirelik Yaklaşımları

Öz

İnsandan insana kolaylıkla bulaşabilen korona virüs hastalığı 2019 yılında ortaya çıkmış ve Dünya Sağlık Örgütü tarafından 2020 yılının Mart ayında pandemi ilan edilmiştir. Koronavirüs hastalığı geçiren bazı bireylerde hafif semptomlar gözlenirken, bazı bireylerde yaşamı tehdit edici seyredebilmektedir. Ülkemizde Sağlık Bakanlığı tarafından elektif cerrahiler ertelenmiş ve enfeksiyon kontrol önlemleri bildirilmiştir. Acil ve onkolojik cerrahi uygulanması durumunda ise hasta ve sağlık personelinin virüse maruziyetini azaltmak, yatak, ventilatör ve diğer hastane kaynaklarının uygun kullanılması amacıyla erken taburculuk önem kazanmıştır. Bu durum, hedefine erken taburculuğu alan ve kanıta dayalı uygulamalardan oluşan “Cerrahi Sonrası Hızlandırılmış İyileşme” (Enhanced Recoverty After Surgery) protokollerinin önemini gündeme getirmiştir. Hemşireler de bu protokollerin uygulanmasında anahtar rol oynayan sağlık profesyonelleridir. Bu derlemenin amacı koronavirüs pandemi sürecinde cerrahi uygulamalarda cerrahi sonrası hızlandırılmış iyileşme protokollerini ve hemşirenin rolünü ele almaktır.
