Stepchildren of the Prophet Muhammad

Abstract

In this article, primarily the number of Prophet Muhammad's stepchildren and their short biographies are revealed. Of the four of Prophet Muhammad's wives he married, he had a total of twelve stepchildren, although their number is uncertain. These children, all of whom are orphans and a few of whom have no information other than their names in the sources, grew up under His upbringing and protection. Hz. In a society where paternal lineage is considered important and daughters are not considered very acceptable, the Prophet treated all his stepchildren as his own children, married some of them himself, and there was no problem between them. Especially the orphans of Umm Salama spent their first childhood in Hz. They provided very important information by conveying their own experiences in matters such as table manners and child training from the time they spent in the Prophet's house. The hadiths they narrated were included in Kutub-i Sitta. Since orphanhood and step-childhood are a social reality in every society, the practices of the Prophet Muhammad on this subject have been tried to be revealed and evaluated.
