5S UYGULAMALARININ LOJİSTİK ETKİNLİĞİNİN DEĞERLENDİRİLMESİ: HAVA KARGO ÖRNEĞİ

Öz

Lojistik sektöründe verimlilik, zaman yönetimi ve kalite faktörleri günümüzde işletmelerin rekabet gücünü belirleyen temel unsurlar hâline gelmiştir. Bu kapsamda, yalın yönetim yaklaşımlarından biri olan 5S yöntemi; çalışma alanlarında düzen, temizlik ve standardizasyon sağlayarak israfı azaltmayı ve operasyonel mükemmelliği geliştirmeyi amaçlamaktadır. Bu araştırmanın amacı, 5S uygulamalarının hava kargo taşımacılığına yönelik bir lojistik depo ortamındaki etkinliğini incelemektir. Çalışma, İstanbul’da faaliyet gösteren bir hava yolu kargo şirketinin lojistik merkezinde gerçekleştirilmiş olup, nitel ve nicel veri toplama yöntemleri bir arada kullanılmıştır. Saha gözlemleri ve denetim kontrol formlarından elde edilen veriler, 5S sisteminin doğru ve sürdürülebilir biçimde uygulanmasının iş kazalarını azalttığını, zaman kayıplarını önlediğini, çalışan memnuniyetini artırdığını ve genel verimliliği yükselttiğini ortaya koymaktadır. Sonuç olarak, hava kargo lojistik merkezlerinde 5S sistemi yalnızca fiziksel düzenin sağlanmasında değil, aynı zamanda kurumsal kültürün güçlendirilmesinde de stratejik bir yönetim aracı olarak değerlendirilmektedir.

EVALUATION OF THE LOGISTICAL EFFECTIVENESS OF 5S PRACTICES: THE CASE OF AIR CARGO

Öz

In the logistics sector, efficiency, time management, and quality factors have become fundamental determinants of corporate competitiveness in today’s business environment. Within this context, the 5S methodology, as one of the core tools of lean management, aims to minimize waste and enhance operational excellence by ensuring order, cleanliness, and standardization in workplaces. The purpose of this study is to examine the effectiveness of 5S practices within a logistics warehouse environment focused on air cargo transportation. The research was conducted at the logistics center of an airline cargo company operating in Istanbul, employing both qualitative and quantitative data collection methods. Findings obtained from field observations and audit control forms indicate that the accurate and sustainable implementation of the 5S system reduces workplace accidents, prevents time losses, increases employee satisfaction, and improves overall productivity. Consequently, the 5S methodology in air cargo logistics centers is regarded not only as a means of maintaining physical organization but also as a strategic management tool that strengthens corporate culture and supports continuous improvement initiatives.
