Hastaların 123’ü erkek, 45’i ise kadındı.

Abstract
A pilonidal sinus is an infected tract under the skin, usually seen on sacrococcygeal area, in the natal cleft. It is usually a small cavity containing a tuft of hair and possibly can be oozing pus. This study was carried out retrospectively with 168 patients to investigate the relationship between the pilonidal sinus and, body mass index, gender and occupation.
The mean age of our patients was 34.16 years, the number of male and female patients were 123 and 45 respectively (p<0.05). The body weight above normal was 127 patients and this is significandy higher than the patients who had normal body weight. The number of our patients doing their normal daily activities mostly by sitting was not higher then the other patients but working by sitting mosdy is a risk and predisposing factor for pilonidal sinus disease.
The obesity or body weight over normal, being male and working mostly by sitting are the factors to attenuate the forming of pilonidal sinus disease. Weight loss and more activity' are advised to the patients.
