The assessment of distance learners by themselves (self-evaluation) and by instructors (summative evaluation) is presently an option for all distance delivered programs and courses. To incorporate the necessary evaluative components, a number of factors must be considered. Among these are the delivery options (internet versus local PC), the different test generation programs that are available and the issues of accessibility, flexibility and security. Suggestions on how to address each of these factors are discussed and recommendations are provided
