A Last Seven-Year Investigation of the Seropositivity of Toxoplasma Gondii in Our Hospital

Abstract

Toks Toxoplasma gondii hayvanlarda ve insanlarda görülen zorunlu bir hücreiçi parazitidir. Hastalık genelde asemptomatik seyreder. Sadece olguların küçük bir kısmında semptomlar orta-ağır sonuçlara yol açar. Dünyada olduğu gibi enfeksiyon ülkemizde de yaygındır. Bu çalışmanın amacı hastalarda Toxoplasma gondii'ye karşı IgG ve IgM prevalansını saptamaktır. Ocak 2001 ile Aralık 2007 arasında İnönü Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Parazitoloji Anabilim Dalı Laboratuvarı'na başvuran, olası tanısı toxoplazmoz olan 4132 hastada anti- Toxoplasma gondii antikorları ELISA ve IFA teknikleri ile incelenmiştir. 4132 hastadan 1534'ü (%37.1) IgG pozitif bulunmuşken , 54'ünde (%1,3) IgM pozitifliği saptanmıştır. 1289 (%84,03) olgu kadın, 245 olgu (%15,97) erkek IgG seropozitif; 44 (%81,48) olgu kadın, 10 (%18,52) olgu erkek olmak üzere IgM seropozitif olarak saptanmıştır. IgG seropozitivitesinin kadınlardaki yüksek oranı istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bulunmuştur (p<0.01). Sonuç olarak Toxoplasma gondii seropozitifliğinin bölgemizde oldukça yaygın olduğu, risk grubundaki hastalara yaklaşımda gözardı edilmemesi gerektiği sonucuna varılmıştır. Hastanemizde Son Yedi Yıllık Toxoplasma Gondii Seropozitifliğinin Araştırılması

Öz

Toxoplasma gondii is an obligate intracellular parasite occurring in both animals and humans. The disease is usually asymptomatic. In a small percentage of cases, symptoms ranging from mild to severe result. The infection is widespread in our country as in the world The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of IgG and IgM antibody to Toxoplasma gondii in patients. In this study, betwen January 2001- December 2007, the presence of anti-Toxoplasma gondii antibodies were investigated using the ELISA and IFA technique in the sera of 4132 patients with a possible diagnosis of toxoplasmosis in Inonu Universty Medical Faculty Parasitology Department. Of 4132 specimens, 1534 (37.1%) were IgG positive and 54 (1.3%) were IgM positive. Regording to the gender1289 (84.03%) cases were women and 245 (15.97%) were men of the IgG seropositive samples, 44(81.48%) were women and 10(18.52%) were men of the IgM seropositive cases. High rate of IgG seropositivity at the women appeared statistically significant (p<0.01). The results showed that seropositivities against T.gondii is commonly found in this region and it is nescesary to pay attention to toxoplasmosis for patients in risc group.
