Repeated Applications of Anesthesia during Radiation Therapy in a Child with Wilms’ Tumor

Abstract

With regard to the accuracy, reliability, reproducibility and success of radiation therapy applications, it is of major importance that the patients remain motionless during the applications, thus complying with the treatment that is performed. For children under four years of age, anesthesiological approaches make significant contributions to the success of radiation therapy applications. In this report, the radiation therapy application that has been performed at the Department of Radiation Oncology at Inonu University Faculty of Medicine on a three year-old girl diagnosed with Wilms' tumor under intravenous sedation has been presented and the anesthesiological approaches for radiation therapy applications in children has been reviewed. Wilms’ Tümörlü Bir Çocukta Radyoterapi Sırasında Yineleyen Anestezi Uygulamaları

Öz

Radyoterapi uygulamalarının doğruluğu, güvenilirliği, yinelenebilirliği ve başarısı açısından hastaların uygulamalar sırasında hareketsiz kalmaları ve bu şekilde gerçekleştirilen tedaviye uyum sağlamaları büyük önem taşımaktadır. Anestezi yaklaşımları, dört yaş altındaki çocuklarda radyoterapi uygulamalarının başarısına önemli ölçüde katkıda bulunmaktadır. Bu yazıda, Wilms' tümörü tanısı almış üç yaşında bir kız çocuğunda İnönü Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Radyasyon Onkolojisi Anabilim Dalı'nda intravenöz sedasyon altında gerçekleştirilen radyoterapi uygulaması anlatılmakta ve çocuklarda radyoterapi uygulamalarında anestezi yaklaşımları gözden geçirilmektedir.
