Öz

Marimba, kökenleri yüzyıllar öncesine dayanan ve gelenekselden moderne uzanan, geniş bir müzikal yolculuğa sahip vurmalı bir çalgıdır. Afrika ve Orta Amerika’daki kültürel mirastan beslenen çalgı, zamanla yapısal ve teknik açıdan gelişerek günümüz müzik dünyasında önemli bir yer edinmiştir. Geleneksel müziklerde ritim ve ezginin temel bir unsuru olarak kullanılan marimba, 20. yüzyıldan itibaren klasik müzik, caz ve çağdaş bestecilerin eserlerinde kendine yeni ifade alanları bulmuştur.
Bu çalışmada, marimbanın tarihsel kökenlerinden başlayarak, geleneksel müzikteki yeri ve modern müzik sahnesine nasıl adapte olduğu incelenmiştir. Bu bağlamda, geleneksel müzikten modern müzik türlerine doğru çalgının geçirdiği evrim detaylandırılmıştır. Ayrıca, çağdaş müzikte marimbaya verilen önemin artışı ile birlikte marimbanın gelecekte nasıl bir yön izleyeceğine dair bir bakış açısı sunulmaya çalışılmıştır. Böylelikle marimbanın geçmişten günümüze uzanan dönüşüm süreci kapsamlı bir şekilde ele alınarak, müzik dünyasındaki yeri ve öneminin daha iyi anlaşılması amaçlanmıştır. Bu aşamada, mevcut literatürün incelenmesiyle birlikte kaynak taraması yapılmış ve konuyu geniş bir perspektiften sunmak amacıyla betimsel, tarihsel, karşılaştırmalı analiz ve doküman analizi araştırma yöntemlerine başvurulmuştur.

The History of Marimba and its Evolution from Traditional to Modern Music

Öz

The marimba is a percussion instrument whose origins go back centuries and has a wide musical journey from traditional to modern. Nourished by the cultural heritage of Africa and Central America, the instrument has developed structurally and technically over time and has gained an important place in today’s music world. Used as a basic element of rhythm and melody in traditional music, the marimba has found new areas of expression in the works of classical music, jazz and contemporary composers since the 20th century.
This study examines the historical origins of the marimba, its place in traditional music and how it adapted to the modern music scene. In this context, the evolution of the instrument from traditional music to modern music genres is detailed. In addition, with the increasing importance given to the marimba in contemporary music, a perspective on the future direction of the marimba is presented. In this way, the transformation process of the marimba from the past to the present has been comprehensively analyzed in order to better understand its place and importance in the world of music. At this stage, a literature review was conducted and descriptive, historical, comparative analysis and document analysis research methods were used to present the subject from a broad perspective.
