THE CONTRIBUTION OF VOCATIONAL SCHOOLS TO REGIONAL ECONOMY: THE CASE OF BABAESKI VOCATIONAL SCHOOL

In the 21.century that globalization is the determiner, economical development is very important for all countries. In addition to the traditional development programmes, local development strategies are also very important as the supplementary factors for the economical developmental process. Vocational high schools take place as local implementing institutions. Universities have an
important role at the global rivalry and development process as the education of
human resources. Universities known as the basic dynamic of the regional
development help the improvement of education, economy, social and cultural
structure in societies. Vocational high schools are also important especially for local
economies as the supplementary of development. They also give support to the
employment constitutions at the labour force markets especially at the developing
countries with the help of training staff for them. The result of the questionnaire
applied at this study to find out the contributions of vocational high schools to the
local economies concretely let us calculate the students‘ expenses on
accommodation, food, transport, school canteen, stationery etc. It was seen that
these expenses also contribute to income and employment at local economies.

Öz
Küreselleşmenin belirleyici olduğu 21.yüzyılda ekonomik kalkınma ülkelerin gündeminde önemli bir yer tutmaktadır. Geleneksel kalkınma programları yanında yerel kalkınma stratejileri de tamamlayıcı unsur olarak ekonomik kalkınma sürecinde önem taşımaktadır. Yerel kalkınmanın gerçekleşmesinde Meslek yüksekokulları yerel uygulayıcı olarak rol almaktadır. Küresel rekabet ve kalkınma sürecinde üniversiteler beşeri kaynakların eğitimi ile önemli bir paya sahiptir. Bölgesel kalkınmanın temel dinamiği kabul edilen üniversiteler toplumda eğitime, ekonomiye, sosyo-kültürel yapıya önemli katkılar sağlamaktadır. Meslek yüksekokulları da özellikle yerel ekonomiler açısından kalkınmanın tamamlayıcısı olarak önem taşımaktadır. Meslek elemanı yetiştirerek özellikle gelişmekte olan ülkelerde iş gücü piyasalarında istihdam yapısına da önemli katkı sağlamaktadır. Meslek yüksekokullarının yerel ekonomilere katkılarının somut olarak belirlenmesi amacı ile yapılan bu çalışmada uygulanan anket sonucu öğrencilerin barınma, gıda, ulaşım, okul kantini, kırtasiye gibi alanlarda gerçekleştirdikleri harcamaları hesaplanmıştır. Bu harcamaların yerel ekonomide gelir ve istihdam artışına da katkı sağladığı belirlenmiştir
