Objectives: The effect of cochlear implantation on voice development in prelingually deaf children was investigated.Patients and Methods: The study included 60 prelingual ly deaf children 28 giriş, 32 boys; mean age 68 months; range 37 to 128 months who undervvent cochlear implan tation. Voice analyses were made betvveen 6 to 21 months after the first fitting and six months after the baseline. The patients were divided into two groups i according to age younger or older than 48 months and ii to the duration of implant use more or less than 18 months to observe the changes in fundamental frequency Fo , and two for mant frequencies Fi and F2 . Forty-seven children 22 giriş, 25 boys; mean age 62 months; range 38 to 118 months with normal speech and language development comprised the control group. İn ali the cases, Fo, F i, and F2 values of the vowel /a/ were studied. Results: İn the patient group, Fo and F2 values signifi- cantly differed betvveen the first and second voice analy ses, vvhereas the change in Fi values vvas insignificant. No significant differences vvere found in terms of Fo, Fi and F2 values betvveen the patients younger than 48 months and age-matched Controls; hovvever, Fo and Fi values significantly differed in those older than 48 months vvhile F2 values remained insignificant. Albeit statistically insignificant, Fo, F i, and F2 values approxi- mated normal levels in children in vvhom the duration of implant use exceeded 18 months. Conclusion: Our study confirms that early cochlear implantation and longer implant use result in improved.

Tüm olgularda /a/ sesinin F0, F1ve Fformantları saptandı.
