ŞEMSETTİN SAMİ’YE İSNAT EDİLEN ARNAVUTLUK NE İDİ, NEDİR, NE OLACAK? ADLI ESER ÜZERİNE BİR TARTIŞMA

An intellectual of Tanzimat Era, Shemseddin Sami (Frasheri) is a great scholar who devoted his life to an extend area as Turkish culture, art, literature and language and who concretized this devotedness through some of his immortal works that could not be surpassed even today. This is an unarguable fact; however, he is a remarkable person not only for this aspect but also for his attitude and style in the aforementioned works since Shemseddin Sami is among the ones who realized the power of nationalism, one of the important movements of that period, and clearly manifested his “Turkist” attitude through inclining towards Turkish culture, art, language and literature. However, this Turkist intellectual, who devoted his life to Turkish culture and knowledge, would be mentioned with a completely opposite image from his Turkist attitude in the first quarter of the Republic Period due to the work titled Albania, what it was, what it is and what it will be?, which was ascribed to him. Moreover, interestingly, this issue would be brought forward by another Turkist, Orhan Seyfi Orhon. Orhan Seyfi Orhon made a series of publications titled “The Ones We Nursed in Our Bosom! A Document of Betrayal and Ungratefulness” about the aforementioned work in the journal of Çınaraltı in the mids of 1940s. These publications presented some excerpts from Albania, what it was, what it is and what it will be?, which was ascribed to Shemseddin Sami and made some comments on these excerpts with an intentive language. Writers and readers form other journals joined in this case and therefore the topic evolved into different dimensions and aspects and a discussion process began. This article evaluates the discussions on the aforementioned publications through focusing on them. 

Bir Tanzimat aydını olan Şemsettin Sami, hayatını Türk kültürü, sanatı, edebiyatı, dili gibi son derece geniş bir sahaya adayan ve bu adanmışlığı hâlen bugün bile aşılamamış bazı ölmez eserleriyle somutlayan büyük bir âlimdir. Bu, tartışmasız bir gerçektir. Ancak o, sadece bu yönüyle değil, söz konusu eserlerdeki tavrı ve duruşuyla da son derece dikkate değer bir şahsiyettir. Çünkü Şemsettin Sami, devrin önemli cereyanlarından biri olan milliyetçiliğin gücünü çok erkenden fark eden ve bu çerçevede Türk kültürü, sanatı, dili ve edebiyatına yönelerek “Türkçü” tavrını açıkça belli edenlerdendir. Ne var ki Türk kültür ve irfanına hayatını vakfeden bu Türkçü âlim, kendisine isnat edilen Arnavutluk Ne İdi, Nedir, Ne Olacak? adlı eser dolayısıyla Cumhuriyet’in ilk çeyreğinde Türkçü tavrından taban tabana zıt bir görüntüyle söz konusu edilecektir. Üstelik bunu, ilginç ama kendisi gibi Türkçü bir isim olan Orhan Seyfi Orhon gündeme getirecektir. Orhan Seyfi Orhon, 1940’lı yılların ortalarına doğru yukarıda adını andığımız eser üzerine başında bulunduğu Çınaraltı dergisinde “Koynumuzda Beslediklerimiz! Bir Hiyanet ve Nankörlük Vesikası” başlıklı bir dizi neşriyatta bulunur. Bu neşriyatta Şemsettin Sami’ye isnat edilen Arnavutluk Ne İdi, Nedir, Ne Olacak? adlı metinden bazı pasajlar verirken beraberinde dikkatli bir dille yorumlarda bulunur. Buna, diğer gazetelerden yazarlar ve okurlar da katılır. Böylece konu farklı noktalara evrilir ve bir tartışma süreci başlar. Bu makalede söz konusu neşriyat üzerine başlayan tartışmalar merkeze alınarak değerlendirilecektir.
