MIGRATION MUSEUMS FROM A GLOBAL PERSPECTIVE: A STUDY OF THEMATIC THEORIES AND EXHIBITION METHODS

This article examines the concept of museology from a global perspective, exploring thematic theo-ries and exhibition methods of migration museums from a theoretical perspective. Migration is the expansion of human mobility across the globe. Throughout history, people have migrated and conti-nue to migrate due to cultural, economic, and social changes. Migration museums are important insti-tutions that reflect the experiences of migrants, contribute to memory formation through the stories of host country citizens and migrants, facilitate intercultural integration, organize, and strengthen social awareness. The aim of this research is to shed light on the museology sector and present successful examples to the sector through a comprehensive evaluation. Therefore, this study aims to present key examples of the theories and various exhibition methods employed in global migration museums to sector stakeholders. This study theoretically analyzes representational practices in migration mu-seums through an in-depth literature review, drawing on postcolonial theory, diaspora and memory studies, and displacement theories. Exhibition methods such as ethnographic reconstructions, Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR) experiences, various participatory creations, and multimedia storytelling are examined through examples from the Ellis Island National Immigration Museum (USA), Deutsches Auswandererhaus (Germany), Migration Museum (Australia), Pier 21 (Canada), and Migration Museum (UK). Consequently, the study emphasizes the significant role of migration mu-seums in the global museology field and their ethical responsibilities.
