Running Performance in Turkish Professional Football Leagues: A Comparative Analysis of Süper Lig and 1st League Teams in the 2022–2023 Season

This study aimed to compare specific running performance metrics of teams competing in the Turkish Football Federation’s 2022-2023 Süper Lig and First Division (1st Lig). The sample included teams that finished the season at the top, middle, and bottom of each league: Galatasaray (top), Kasımpaşa FK (middle), and Ümraniyespor (bottom) from the Süper Lig, and Samsunspor (top), Bandırmaspor (middle), and Yeni Malatyaspor (bottom) from the 1st Lig. Data were collected using the OPTA analysis program and included total running distance, high-speed running distance, sprint distance, number of high-speed accelerations, sprint count, and maximum speed. SPSS version 26 was used for statistical analysis. One-way ANOVA and the Duncan post-hoc test were applied for intra-league comparisons, while independent t-tests were used for comparisons between leagues (p<0.05). Results showed that while total running distance did not differ significantly among 1st Lig teams, other variables showed significant differences (p<0.05). In the Süper Lig, total distance, high-speed distance, and high-speed accelerations were similar, but sprint-related metrics differed (p<0.05). Overall, Süper Lig teams displayed superior running performance compared to 1st Lig teams, and within each league, higher-ranked teams demonstrated better performance than those ranked lower.

Türkiye Profesyonel Futbol Liglerinde Koşu Performansı: 2022–2023 Sezonu Süper Lig ve 1. Lig Takımlarının Karşılaştırmalı Analizi

Bu çalışma, Türkiye Futbol Federasyonu’nun 2022-2023 sezonunda Süper Lig ve 1. Lig’de (Birinci Lig) mücadele eden takımların belirli koşu performansı değişkenlerini karşılaştırmayı amaçlamıştır. Örneklem, her iki ligde sezonu üst, orta ve alt sıralarda tamamlayan takımları içermektedir: Süper Lig’den Galatasaray (üst sıra), Kasımpaşa FK (orta sıra) ve Ümraniyespor (alt sıra); 1. Lig’den ise Samsunspor (üst sıra), Bandırmaspor (orta sıra) ve Yeni Malatyaspor (alt sıra) çalışmaya dahil edilmiştir. Veriler OPTA analiz programı kullanılarak toplanmış olup; toplam koşu mesafesi, yüksek hızlı koşu mesafesi, sprint mesafesi, yüksek hızlı ivmelenme sayısı, sprint sayısı ve maksimum hız değişkenlerini içermektedir. İstatistiksel analizlerde SPSS sürüm 26 kullanılmıştır. Lig içi karşılaştırmalarda tek yönlü ANOVA ve Duncan post-hoc testi, ligler arası karşılaştırmalarda ise bağımsız örneklem t-testi uygulanmıştır (p<0.05). Sonuçlara göre, 1. Lig takımları arasında toplam koşu mesafesi anlamlı bir farklılık göstermemekle birlikte diğer tüm değişkenlerde anlamlı farklar tespit edilmiştir (p<0.05). Süper Lig’de ise toplam mesafe, yüksek hızlı koşu mesafesi ve yüksek hızlı ivmelenme sayıları benzer bulunurken, sprintle ilgili değişkenler arasında anlamlı farklılıklar gözlemlenmiştir (p<0.05). Genel olarak, Süper Lig takımlarının 1. Lig takımlarına kıyasla daha yüksek koşu performansı sergilediği; her iki lig içerisinde de üst sıralardaki takımların alt sıralardaki takımlara göre daha iyi performans gösterdiği belirlenmiştir.
