Öz

Tanıtımı yapılan bu esere önsöz yazan Suraiyet Faroqhi bir makalesinde ("In Search of Ottoman History", The Journal of Peasant Studies, 18/34, April/July 1991, London, s. 211) "Modern uslup" ve "Cumhuriyet tipi" diye adlandırdığı 1920'lerin Osmanlı tarihçiliğinden bu yana Türkiye'de ki Osmanlı tarih araştırmalarının Avrupa tarih yazıcılığının iddialarına cevap bulma açısından bir takipçisi olduğunu ve dolayısıyla kendine model seçtiğini iddia etmektedir. Fuat Köprülü ile başlıyan bu akımın Ö. L. Barkan ve diğer bazı tarihçiler ile devam ettiği kanısındadır. Bu yaklaşımın ödünleri büyük olmuştur. Rıfat'at 'Ali Abou-El-Haj işte bu ödünleri eserinde dile getirmektedir.
