The First Cave is near to, and slightly to the northwest of, the village of Mağracık, which is about four and a half kilometers northwest of the District (Kaza) Center of Samandağ and is located at the edge of the ancient city of Seleucia, built by the Great Seleucus, one of Alexander the Great's generals, who was the founder of the Seleucid dynasty. In the vicinity of the First Cave, there are also other caves, some natural and some artificial. Some of the natural caves in this region had also been inhabited in the classical period. The First Cave and the other caves in this region are found at the southern foothills of Musa Dagh, in limestones of Helvetian (Miocene) Age.
