Geodesy, one of the oldest disciplines, has attracted the attention of civilizations such as Egyptians, Babylonians and Greeks throughout the ages. The problem of mapping the earth and determining its size and shape has been one of the most fundamental topics of interest in the history of science. One of the civilizations that contributed most to Geodesy in ancient times was the Greek civilization. Many scientists and philosophers have contributed both theoretically and practically to the geodetic science. In this paper, developments in the field of Geodesy, especially in the ancient Greek period, have been discussed. The odyssey from boundary surveys in Ancient Egypt to modern geographic information systems has been studied. Furthermore, a similar application of the earth measurements made by Eratosthenes of Alexandria who is regarded as the founder of Geodesy was performed and the results obtained are indicated.
