EXPERIMENTAL OPTIMIZATION OF SURFACE ROUGHNESS IN MILLING OF AISI 304 STAINLESS STEEL ON A CNC VERTICAL MACHINING CENTER

Öz

One of the most critical factors affecting the service life of machine elements is the condition of their surfaces. In this study, the impact of machining parameters on the surface roughness during the milling of AISI 304 stainless steel was investigated. Experimental work was carried out using the Taguchi L18 design of experiments, and changes in surface roughness were analyzed. The optimal machining conditions were determined based on various experimental results. The findings of the study indicate that the surface roughness values in experiments conducted under dry machining conditions were lower compared to those where coolant was used.
