Yıl 2025, Cilt: 12 Sayı: 2, 119 - 126, 27.06.2025

Breast cancer advocacy is an important field of activity aimed at protecting patients' rights, meeting their needs, and improving treatment processes. Since the 1950s, this movement, which has developed with the aims of advocating for patient rights, raising awareness, and providing access to innovative treatments, has facilitated patients' access to early diagnosis, appropriate treatment, and psychosocial support services. Advocacy, while enhancing the quality of life by providing personalized care, also faces challenges such as lack of information and education, limited resources, and sociocultural barriers. New opportunities such as digital and social media, technology, and international collaborations enhance the impact of advocacy activities, allowing patients to take more active roles in their treatment processes. Breast cancer advocacy can improve patient outcomes by turning challenges into opportunities and contribute to the development of health policies. In this review, the historical development of patient advocacy in breast cancer, its impact on patient outcomes, the challenges faced, and new opportunities have been addressed in a multifaceted manner.
