Product Analysis Laboratory-Waste Management

Abstract

The wastes are one of the most difficult environmental problem to manage in our country and whole world. An inventory should be prepared for many kinds of waste as home, medical, industrial and dangerous wastes, and all the wastes should be managed at the source. Many kinds of wastes are also produced by the laboratory analysis and the service activities. Some of the main purposes of laboratory waste management are to prevent environmental waste damage, provide economical benefits to the firms and industry by minimising the waste thus leads to develope environment quality. zBest way to avoid the waste is not to produce the waste where possible at source. If this is not possible, waste minimisation and recovering value of waste by recycling should be considered. The level of awareness on waste management in Turkey has increased significantly in recent years. Therefore recycling rate in Turkey has also increased. Waste regulations, circulars and notifications have been performed and waste management has been required in our country. Laboratory wastes should be classified and should become safe or less dangerous by physical, chemical or biological methods. When waste generation is inevitable and no way to reuse the wastes thus the wastes should be eliminated due to the ‘dangerous waste control regulation’. The wastes should be stored in proper conditions and then given to disposal firms that have license taken by ministry of environment and forests. A good waste management at product analysis laboratories will require a better environment, safer life area and a lower cost.
