A CURRENT PERSPECTIVE ON BILINGUALISM AND FOREIGN LANGUAGE TEACHING IN POLAND

Öz

In the modern world, proficiency in a foreign language is one of the primary indicators of being a qualified individual. In a multilingual, multicultural, and multinational structure such as the European Union, it is almost impossible to exist, communicate effectively, and gain recognition with knowledge of one’s mother tongue alone. For this reason, the European Union has developed a common educational policy in the field of foreign language teaching to ensure that its citizens meet this standard. In doing so, it aims to strengthen interaction among member states, promote healthy intercultural communication, and foster tolerance among societies. Effective communication contributes to breaking down prejudices between individuals and communities and accelerates integration among EU member states. This study evaluates the current state of foreign language teaching and the programs implemented in schools in the Republic of Poland, which has been a member of the European Union since 2004. Furthermore, the Polish education system will be examined in terms of bilingualism and multilingualism.
