Pickleball is a sport that emerged as a combination of tennis, table tennis, and badminton. Its lower load on the body and smaller court dimensions make the game suitable for older adults. This easily learned sport can provide advantages, especially for the older adults. Playing pickleball in older adults has been found beneficial for physical, psychosocial, and cognitive health. However, older adults are the most susceptile to injury in the sport of pickleball. Since pickleball involves frequently repeated movement patterns, overuse injuries can occur. The most common injuries seen in pickleball players are strains, sprains, and fractures. Risk factors for injury in pickleball include; incorrect technique and poor equipment use, inappropriate stretching and warm-up exercises, past injuries, court surface, overuse, gender, and advanced age. Older adults can be directly injured during a match or indirectly due to a pre-existing condition. To prevent pickleball injuries in older adults, special attention should be paid to warm-up exercises and the use of appropriate equipment. In older pickleball athletes, resistance exercises should be preferred to develop strength, balance, and core muscle endurance. The use of a suitable racket and shoes for pickleball is necessary. Engaging in sports is important to promote the process of active aging in older adults. Pickleball is considered a suitable sport for the older adults due to features such as ease of learning and increased social interaction.
