DETERMINING DOPING KNOWLEDGE LEVELS OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION AND SPORTS TEACHERS
Öz
Given the difficulties encountered by sportsmen and
coaches in their sporting lives, they resort to different methods to overcome
these difficulties and achieve the desired level of success. Today, it is a
common practice to use a doping method, whether consciously or unconsciously,
which negatively affects the athletes' health and making an unfair advantage.
In this study; it is aimed to examine the level of doping knowledge of Physical
Education and Sports teachers. A total of 70 physical education teachers, 60
males and 10 females working in the province of Ağrı constitute the sample
group of our study. The content validity, comprehensiveness and reliability of
the questionnaire composed of 32 questions developed by Sargın (2007) to
determine the level of doping knowledge information was made by Sargın in the
2006-2007 academic year and the Cronbach Alpha reliability co-efficient is
determined as 0.92. In analysing the information obtained from the
questionnaire, Chi square analysis tests are performed to determine differences
between frequency and gender variables in SPSS 21.0 package program.
Significance level is taken as p <0.05. According to data collected through
analyses, we found no significant difference between the gender of the teachers
and the reasons for preferring doping use, the information about the types of
doping used in sports, and the opinions of the athletes about the use of doping
in sports. However, it was found that there is a significant difference between
teachers' genders and their opinions about the factors that led to the doping
of sportsmen. They stated that printed, visual media and mass communication
have supported the use of doping. They also stated that teachers have knowledge
about ergogenic aids and that ergogenic aids are considered as doping. In the
light of this information, it is necessary for sports trainers to be informed
more about doping and ergogenic aids.
