The Role and Importance of Circular Business Models in Sustainable Supply Chain Management

Yıl 2024, Cilt: 2 Sayı: 2, 37 - 52, 23.12.2024

Öz

In the changing business world influenced by globalization, sustainable supply chain management has become an area that must be addressed not only from an economic perspective but also considering its environmental and social dimensions. In this context, the present study examines the role and importance of circular models in sustainable supply chain management. The research analyzes the integration of circular business model principles into the supply chain and the advantages it provides to businesses. The study uses the literature review method to outline the theoretical framework of circular models and examines them within the scope of sustainable supply chain management. The literature review shows that circular models contribute not only to environmental sustainability but also to cost optimization, operational efficiency, and brand value. Within the scope of sustainable supply chains, the study investigates closed-loop supply chains, recycling and reuse, design-driven circularity, sharing economy, waste management, reverse logistics, bio-clean technologies, sustainable sourcing, responsible supply chains, and industrial symbiosis models. The paper also discusses the future of circular models in sustainable supply chain management and suggests necessary steps for their widespread adoption. The adoption of circular models emerges as a strategic tool for businesses to tackle environmental challenges such as the global climate crisis and resource scarcity.
