MIS Integration and Competitive Advantage in SMEs: A Four-Layer Conceptual Model Based on TAM and RBV
Öz
This study proposes a four-layer integrated conceptual model — covering (L1) external/contextual factors, (L2) technology adoption via TAM, (L3) resource-capability development via RBV, and (L4) performance outcomes with a dynamic feedback loop — to explain how MIS integration produces sustainable competitive advantage in SMEs. The model bridges individual adoption behavior and organizational capability formation, addressing a cross-level theoretical gap that prior TAM-RBV integrations have not yet formalized as a testable multi-level research programme. Absorptive capacity bridges L2 and L3; dynamic capabilities ground the L4–L1 feedback cycle. Drawing on a narrative literature review encompassing 51 carefully selected publications, the model introduces seven testable propositions to guide future empirical research. A comparative analysis of Turkish SMEs against EU and global benchmarks surfaces structural adoption barriers and policy lessons. The literature suggests that ERP and CRM investments improve performance, but success depends on top management leadership, employee engagement, and a data-driven organizational culture.
