The functional vision is a visual function that able to achieve the daily living activities effectively. The visual impairment is related to the affected skills with vision. The purpose of our study was to evaluate the manual skills and level of independency of children with low vision, to plan a training program and to investigate the effectiveness of that program on manual skills and independency. The mean age of the 20 participants that was 8. 8 ± 0. 77 years ( 9 girls and 11 boys) was introduced to the activity training program, and the mean age of the other 20 participants that were 8. 9 ± 0. 86 years ( 11 girls and 9 boys) was introduced to the home suggestions program. The manual skills were evaluated by Jebsen Hand Function Test and the level of independency was evaluated by Northwick Park Independency Index. The participants were trained during 3 months, 3 days a week and an hour a day. When the pre and post training results were compared it was found that the performance that related to manual skills was increased and the independency level was increased. The differences between pre and post training results were found significant as statistically ( p < . 05). The significant relationship was found between independency level and right hand manual skills related to performance of the participants ( p < . 05). It was concluded that the training programs based on activity could be decreased the functional visual impairment and it could be increased the independency level
