Toward the end of Sultan Sanjar’s reign, during the invasion of Oghuz, Khorasan region was
dragged to a huge commotion. In fact, many cities and people directly affected by this turmoil. After
falling prisoner Sanjarʹs efforts to re‐establish order could not be successful, the irregularities
continued in conjunction with his death shortly after his captivity.
Envarî who is the Sultanʹs poet laureate, had expressed the grievances of people of Khorasan by
the elegy (qasîdah) called Nâme‐ye Ahl‐e Khorasan/letter of Khorasan’s people to Samarkand’s
governor Rukn al‐Din Tamgach Mahmud Khan. The Poet is begging the rescue of people of
Khorasan from this bad situation. Our study will focus on the causes and consequences of Oguz
rebellion and translation of Envarî’s elegy.
