Soil-Water and Shear Strength Properties of Kocaeli Clays

Abstract

The objective of this study is to examine the Kocaeli expansive soil in its unsaturated state and to perform the wetting-drying cycle tests of soil-water features of it in the laboratory conditions. The test results indicated that the soil-water characteristic curve of the pre-load samples may represent the soil property function very well. The strength features of the various suction conditions of the unsaturated expansive soil were also examined. The hyperbolic model of the suction strength was provided and the parameters of this model were determined by tri-axial tests of unsaturated soil. This model could be easily applied to predict suction strength of an unsaturated soil

Kocaeli'de Yer Alan Killi Zeminlerin Zemin-Su ve Kayma Dayanımı Özellikleri

Öz

Bu çalışmanın amacı Kocaeli bölgesinde yer alan killerin doygun olmadığı durumdaki hallerini incelemek ve onların laboratuar ortamında ıslak-kuru devirsel testlerini ortaya çıkarmaktır. Test sonuçları ön yüklemeye tabi tutulmuş örneklerin zemin-su karakteristik eğrisinin zemin özellik fonksiyonunu çok iyi gösterdiğini belirtmiştir. Çalışmada suya doygun olmayan killerin su emme dayanımının hiperbolik modeli oluşturulmuş ve bu modelin parametreleri üç eksenli testlerle elde edilmiştir. Bu model suya doygun olmayan bir kilin su emme dayanımını elde etmek için rahatlıkla uygulanabilir
