Regional Analysis of Health Sector Competitive Power: The Case of Turkey
Abstract
One of the vital components of capitalist economic
system is competitiveness. In capitalist system, competitive power is the
strongest indicator of economic power both micro and macro level. An economic
actor that has a bigger competitive power than its competitors is the most
successful economic actor. If a good or service producer increases its
productivity, it can produce the same good or service with a lower cost. There
is a strong and positive relationship between productivity and competitive
power. Additionally, there is a strong link between productivity and efficiency
which means not to waste the production factors. It is not possible to increase
the productivity level with a lower efficiency level. The aim of the study is
to determine the competitive power of health sector for nuts 2 level regions in
Turkey by using Data Envelopment Analyze and Malmquist Total Factor
Productivity Index. At the end of the empirical study, it is found that, there
is a decrease in competitive power of 12 regions while there is an increase in
competitive power of 13 regions. However, there is only one region that holds
steady its competitiveness level.
