Investigation of Effects of Combined Trichodoll® and Cutibacterium granulosum Administration on Total Oxidant Status and Total Antioxidant Status in Sheep with Dermatophytosis

Dermatophytosis is a contagious zoonotic fungal disease affecting keratinized tissues in humans and animals, caused by dermatophytes of the species Trichophyton spp., Microsporum spp. and Epidermophyton spp. In this study, it was aimed to evaluate the effects of vaccination and immunomodulatory treatment protocols administered to sheep with dermatophytosis on serum total antioxidant status (TAS) and total oxidant status (TOS). The study material consisted of a total of 20 female Zom breed sheep, aged three years or over, with a history of dermatological lesions for at least one month and no prior treatment. Sheep diagnosed with dermatophytosis were randomly divided into two equal groups (n = 10). Blood samples were collected from all sheep at two different time (pre-administration and post-administration). Serum TAS and TOS levels were determined using a commercial ELISA kit. Only in the group that received the vaccine, a decrease in TAS levels was observed on day 7 (P = .059), while no significant change was detected in TOS levels (P = .910). In the combined treatment group, a significant increase in TAS levels was determined (P = .028), while no statistically significant difference was observed in TOS levels (P = .705). The results obtained reveal that Cutibacterium granulosum regulates the oxidative stress response and increases antioxidant capacity due to its immunomodulatory properties.
