Distinctive factors on a multiple axis shape the way systems perceive each other. These factors prevail in every action, including translation, the systems present to one another. Usage of translation on this basis makes it an instrument and one of the consequences of instrumentalisation of translation is to use it as a representation or identity construction over representation of the counter images, which makes the translation be open to manipulation as it is to manipulate. This manipulation stimulates to adopt target oriented translation strategies especially in the light of specific motivations. When the perception of countercultures and the manipulation feature of the translation come together, the textual and extra-textual factors specific to the source system presented in the source text will pass through a certain target system filter and the perception will turn into a presentation. In this study, target-oriented approaches within the framework of translation studies have been tried to be examined in an interdisciplinary context with imagology, which examines the perception and presentation of the societies to each other through the concept of image. Translation norms and policies shaped depending on the period direct the transfer of source system images to the target system. In this context, in this study, based on the periods in which target-oriented translation approaches were adopted, it was studied why and how images were transferred within the framework of translation norms and policies in the relevant periods. In this way, the place of the concept of image in translation studies was examined within the context of translation studies and imagology and the dynamics of translation in this context were revealed.
