Nursing Management in Epileptic Seizures
Abstract
Epileptic seizures is a common neurological emergency, causing a wide spectrum of clinical symptoms associated with significant morbidity and mortality. It has a highly variable pathophysi- ological, anatomical and aetiological basis. Prolonged and uncontrolled seizures may induce systemic and neurologic sequale. Despite improvements in the management of patients with epileptic seizures, mortality is still high. There still is a substantial need to improve measures for both the prevention and effective management of seizures. Nurses have a role in assessing for altered health maintenance related to knowledge deficit or other barriers, anticipating risk of injury, and providing support for clients and their families who experience life changes related to seizure disorders
