Yoğun Bakım Ünitesinde Yaşlı Hastalarda Uyku Sorunları ve Çözüm Önerileri

Öz

Temel yaşam gereksinimlerinden biri olan uyku; fiziksel ve ruhsal sağlığın sürdürülmesi için gereklidir. İlerleyen yaşla birlikte vücut sistem ve fonksiyonlarındaki değişimlere paralel olarak uyku süre ve kalitesinde de bozulmalar meydana gelir. Uyku bozukluklarının sağlık üzerine olumsuz etkileri yoğun bakım ortamının uyku üzerine etkisi ile birleştirdiğinde, bu durum özellikle yaşlı hastalar için önemli bir problem oluşturabilir. Bu nedenle yoğun bakım hemşireleri yaşlı kritik hastanın bakımında uyku süre ve kalitesini etkileyen faktörleri göz önüne almalı ve uyku bozuklu- ğuna yol açan faktörleri en aza indirmek için gerekli girişimlerde bulunmalıdır. Bu derleme makalede kritik yaşlı hastanın YBÜ’de uyku ve uykusunu etkileyen faktörler ve hemşirelik yakla- şımları incelenmiştir.

Sleep Problems in Elderly in Intensive Care Unit and Suggestions for Solution

Öz

Sleep, which is among basic life requirements, is essential for the maintenance of physical and mental health. In parallel to the changes in bodily systems and functions, which occur with increased age, impairments in sleep duration and sleep quality may develop. The combination of negative effects of sleep disorders on health and the effect of intensive care settings on sleep may pose a serious problem for elderly patients in particular. Therefore, intensive care nurses should consider factors affecting sleep duration and sleep quality in the care of elderly critical patients and should provide necessary interventions aimed at minimizing factors that lead to sleep disorders. In this review, factors affecting sleep in elderly critical patients in Elderly Care Unit settings and relevant nursing approaches were examined.
