Yayılı Tekrar Prensibinin Mühendislik Matematiği Öğrenimindeki Etkisinin Araştırılması

Year 2019, Volume: 2 Issue: 2, 1 - 5, 31.12.2019

Abstract

Ülkemiz üniversite öncesi
PISA araştırmasında matematik dalında 72 ülke arasında 48. sıradadır.
Mühendislik mesleği hangi alanında olursa olsun matematiksel düşünme üzerine kuruludur.
Bu bakımdan iyi mühendisler yetiştirmemizin yolu liseden yeterince altyapı
kazandırılmadan gelen öğrencilerimize iyi matematik öğretebilmemizden
geçmektedir. Bu çalışmada Adana Bilim ve Teknoloji Üniversitesi bünyesinde
bölümler arası ortak olarak verilen Kalkülüs II dersi kapsamında geliştirilen
öğretim sisteminin öğrenci performansına etkisi araştırılmıştır. Sistemin

Effect of Distributed Practice on the Learning of Engineering Mathematics

Year 2019, Volume: 2 Issue: 2, 1 - 5, 31.12.2019

Abstract

Turkey's ranking is 48th
among 72 countries in the mathematics branch in the PISA research before the
university. The engineering profession is based on mathematical thinking in
every field. In this respect, the way to educate good engineers is teaching
good mathematics to our students who are enrolling to university without
bringing sufficient fundamental skills from high school. In this study, the
effect of the teaching system developed within the scope of the Calculus II
course, which is a joint course between the departments of Adana Science and
Technology University, was investigated on the performance of students. The
basis of the system is provided studying regularly with weekly homework and
exams, and learning without accumulating subjects throughout the semester,
instead of performing a midterm and final exams every 2 months. In addition to
this, it is possible to get support from the assistants at outside of office
hours and weekends, and award applications are also supportive for students who
get high grades. In comparison to the classical method, grade point average,
student satisfaction and learning effect are much higher in the new system.
Normally, the average of the classes lay between 30-45 in the Calculus II class
and the average in the new system is 66. Comparative statistical analysis of
the grades with reference grades, and interviews with students indicate that
the new system is more appropriate in terms of engineering mathematics.
